March 2002 - US TOUR

Sunday 17th March

St Patrick’s day in Wichita – "Begorra, Erse, Ballix, Feck and other well know Irish phrases!"

Even though Simon had neatly prepared his clothes and bag the previous night, he was still the last into the van this morning. What is usually a day of drunken debauchery, turned out to be the most subdued St. Paddy’s day in the history of the Scooters. Apart from Chris drinking a bottle of Budweiser on ice, served from a champagne bucket, not a single drop of alchohol passed anybody’s lips!

We left Austin at 10.00, heading for Kansas. We spent the night next 9 hrs on the road, stopping just twice. As we passed Dallas, Simon needed to drop several friends off for their ‘All Texas State Swimming Championship’ (editors note – "charmin’"). A second stop was then made at KFC somewhere on interstate 35 in Oklahoma. Feeling fruity (!), I abstained and headed for the local Wal-Mart, where I bought 5 bananas, 2 apples, 2 oranges and a Ceaser salad for one. (Ed’s note – This is fascinating stuff Bob!)

Steve did a good job of sailing the ship on his first day alone at the wheel. We arrived at Wichita at 7.00pm and watched ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark and a Greenday docu!! Rock ‘n Roll!
