March 2002 - US TOUR

Saturday 6 April

Friday night’s gig was cancelled so we had a well earned rest at the hotel yesterday.

Left New Jersey today and headed North until we reached Great Barrington, a tiny town on the border of New York State and Massachusetts. There were only a few streets but very picture postcard, like the sort of place you go to retire.

Once again, we had the pleasure of supporting the Pushstars.

The bar that we played at was called the Helsinki. A warm and cozy place with a wonderful restaurant (where we sampled the menu for free!!). Not the sort of place to turn the amps up and rock out, so we decided to sit on stools and do an acoustic set, which we later found was the perfect choice.

The crowd loved our performance and for our finale, we all jumped onto the bar, me with the acoustic, and performed a killer version of Big Star’s ‘The Ballad of El Goodo’ to a hushed crowd.

A lot of people at the gig were staying at our hotel, so they arranged a party for ourselves and the Pushstars back at the ranch. However, the hotel manager threatened to throw everyone out onto the streets. So, it was called off. Fascist!
